School Yard Stomp

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Note: this post is best read with Katy Perry, Ke$ha, or whatever girl pop you listened to in high school playing in the background. That is all.

Sometimes an outfit can totally change my demeanor. Or even an item. These boots make me feel totally badass. I walk tall (probably because I am much taller in them), and I stomp hard like I own the damn place. The beautiful thing is that, when you feel like that, you act like that, and when you act like that, you do own the place. It's an amazing feeling. The boot/jacket/mini-top-bun combo I styled for these photos made me feel like the high school badass I most certainly never was. It has all the elements of effortlessly chic while clearly being no such thing. There's something I love about that aesthetic. If I could wear this outfit everyday, I probably would. Ok, I'd wear it for a week and then really want to wear something entirely pink and covered with unicorns and sprinkles...but you get it.

MARSHALLS TOP :: AMERICAN EAGLE JACKET & JEANS :: FRED MEYER BOOTS :: NECKLACE C/O PEPALOVES :: MAC VIVA GLAM MILEY CIRUS LIPGLASS :: URBAN OUTFITTERS SUNNIES

Outfits likes this one are always funny for me because, simple as they are, they always tend to feel like dress up. I feel much more "Mariah" in a skirt with a polka dotted top, and yet I really enjoy putting things like this together too. For a long time I wondered if it would be easier to get followers if I had one cohesive look or if I stuck only to trends or vintage. I worried that my blog was too much of a hodgepodge of looks and food and photography to ever be a thing, but honestly I don't care anymore. I don't want this to be in any way some fake perfect looking picture of my completely pastel life (shoutout to all you pastel princesses! I wish I had your amazing aesthetic!), but that isn't how my life is, and while it may look great on other people, it isn't me. I change my aesthetic (let's see how many times I can say that word in one post...) based on my mood, or the weather, or my hair. Somedays I am a pastel pony, and other days I'm this. I mix denim, or patterns based on how I feel. But I think that's what fashion should be when it comes down to it. Fashion should be nothing more than exactly how you feel, or how you want to feel. The freedom to wake up everyday and choose who you want to be based on what you put on is a beautiful thing, and it's what keeps me coming back for more.
