Olympia Protest

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

You may or may not have heard that there was a shooting in Olympia last Thursday. I never read the news because I think it's too depressing, so if this wouldn't have happened in my own backyard, I probably wouldn't know about it at all. Things become much more real when they happen on a road you've driven down a million times, and they shake your community to its core. I won't go into the details of race or politics here; I am ill qualified for the task, but if you want to know what happened, I suggest reading this article, looking at these photos, and coming to your own conclusions. Or you could just Google "Olympia shooting" I guarantee you'll find something. Anywho, there was a protest the day of the shooting that marched from Westside Olympia all the way to the city hall, Downtown. I was lucky enough to be let out of class to attend the protest, so M and I followed it all the way Downtown, and I took some photos of it as it went. I figured I would share some of them with y'all since I've been too busy to take outfit photos or anything of the like. The rest are on my photography page

Now before anyone gets all up in my face about whether they agree with this or not, because believe me that happened when I posted these on Facebook, remember that that isn't the point. I am posting these merely as a document of what happened in my home city. My opinions do not matter in this case. I do think that a shooting, any shooting, is sad and deplorable. I do not agree with violence in any form, and guns make me extremely uncomfortable. Thankfully, both men are currently doing alright. Most importantly though, I just wanted to share this with you. This is what's going on right now in my city. I wish it never would have happened. Also, on a lighter note, want that chick's socks. Am I right? Too cool.
