Amy & Brent's Valentine's Wedding

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

I was so lucky to have the opportunity to photograph the lovely courthouse wedding of Amy and Brent on Valentine's Day. My fantastic hairdresser referred one of their friends to me, and since they had forgotten to get a photographer, she contacted me for the wedding! Luckily I happened to be completely free on V-Day since M worked, and I was more than excited to shoot my very first wedding! I had never seen the courthouse in Oly, or the surrounding area, but we ended up finding some really photogenic areas, and thank goodness for the guests that came with their amazing truck because I love how the pictures with it turned out. The entire wedding party was so laid back and fun to be around that the three hours I was with them just flew by! Their youngest son took awhile to warm up to me, but by the end of the shoot he was posing his parents and telling me where to shoot them. It was absolutely adorable and some of his poses turned out amazingly! Overall it was such a lovely experience and I cannot wait to shoot my next wedding! So I've decided to share some of my favorite shots of the day with you guys! Hope you like them!

I'm sure I've stated before, but if you're at all interested in my photography, I have a Facebook page for it that is separate from my blog. You can check it out at Mariah Alysz Photography if you care to do so. I'm currently in the process of making myself a website so I look a little more professional. Then come business cards. It's all so exciting!

  1. Ooh, so I have a question for you about photography -- did you go the route of getting licenses for photography, or will you just write it under "other income" for taxes? I can't decide which is better, and I've read that if it's not a full time job, it's okay to list under "other income" for tax purposes. I mainly just don't want to have to get licensing if it's not necessary, because I'd have to get around ten different licenses for my area, and that seems crazy.

I love these! Weddings are SO fun, especially when the wedding party is nice and relaxed. She looks so elegant in that dress! You did a fantastic job!

    1. Oh my goodness I didn't even think about needing licensing and taxes, haha! My mom still claims me on her taxes, so I've never even filed them! (How do they even work? I don't know! haha) But from what it sounds like, I'd probably say it's not a full time job, I mean, if a full time job is defined by a 40 hour minimum work week, then my photography certainly isn't full time. And ten licenses? Insane!

Thank you so much for the compliments! I am always so inspired by your photography! You create such dreamy images! I love them!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

    2. Yeah, it probably doesn't matter! I live in an area where I'd be wanting to shoot in two cities, technically, and I guess you have to get one or two licenses for each city if you're running a full time business. PLUS a state license, a photography license, and a bunch of other things I don't remember. But, my photography is more of a hobby and a way to bring in a little extra cash now and then, so I think I don't need to get licensing!

You're welcome! I love seeing your photography, too!
