The Liebster Award

(Photo from my first outfit post ever)

So today I got a comment on my latest blog post, a photo every hour, from Ashley of Not Your Average Ashley, telling me that she had nominated me for a Liebster Award. I had never heard of this, so had to snoop over to her post about it immediately to see what the deal was. Turns out, it's an award that other bloggers can nominate you for based upon their own likes, etc. and then you can either choose whether or not to accept by answering 11 questions they pose to you, and then pass it on by nominating 11 bloggers you like (usually those with followings under 1,000), and asking them 11 questions. So, all in all, it's a pretty sweet deal.

I think the idea of getting to know bloggers we like a little better through some positive female encouragement is absolutely fantastic, so without further ado, here are my answers to the questions Ashley came up with for me and her other nominees:

1. Why did you start blogging?
I suppose I started blogging because at the time (back in 2012ish) I had a very vague idea of fashion, personal and otherwise, and wanted to somehow connect with other people while also expanding and discovering my own personal taste. Plus, I missed practicing my photography after graduating high school and wanted a creative outlet for that and my writing.

2. How did you come up with the name of your blog?
Rya Pie was my nickname in high school, all my friends called me that or some shortened version like Ry or Rya, so it just seemed like the only obvious choice to me I suppose. It sums me up.

3. What's the best place you've ever visited?
I'd have to say that the best place I've ever visited is Arizona. I grew up between Washington and Arizona and I am just a desert spirit deep down. While I've been to Mexico and many other states in the US, Arizona will always have my heart. I asked Michael where my favorite place I ever visited was and he said Arizona because it's the happiest he's ever seen me. Obviously it had to be my answer after that.

4. Do you have any hidden talents? If yes, what are they?
I guess everyone kind of does, however I can't really think of anything in particular and M is just giving me ridiculous (and rather inappropriate) answers. I guess people are always weirdly impressed when I randomly start doing origami in class. I knit? I have no idea... I can write in pretty cursive and like to write letters with a calligraphy pen and seal them with a wax seal? Letter writing? Letter writing. Oh! Or maybe pulling off crazy lipstick colors. I don't know if that really counts as a talent or a skin tone thing, but I'm going with it.

5. What's your favorite thing about yourself?
My (most of the time) cheerful disposition. Or perhaps my outlook on the world. I choose to see the good in everything, which is not something all people can do. So, definitely that.

6. What's a hobby/activity you would like to learn but haven't tried yet?
Hmmmm. I guess I always wanted to try and get into soap making. That'd be cool.

7. Do you have any pets? If yes, what are they?
Well I have my most darling love Muffin, who will always be my heart and soul. My mom always says that she is the dog version of me, always happy and excited, which is pretty accurate She's in Arizona now with my parents since they moved, which is heartbreaking. Cutest. Dog. Ever.

Currently, M and I just got a kitty and she is the most darling. We were told that she was special needs when we adopted her and that she'd need a lot of time and care to become fully social, but we had to have her after meeting her all the same. They said she never even really responded to anyone and she was all purrs on us when we walked in to see her at the kitten rescue. So we of course brought her home, and even though she's a little skittish, she sleeps with us every night and has just recently decided to venture downstairs. M and I are both madly in love with her. Lady Foot Moon Dancer.

8. What's your favorite piece of clothing?
This is by far the hardest question yet. On one hand, I want to say that my favorite piece of clothing is an old kind of worn out sweatshirt that I stole from my mom after she stole it from my dad. It's so comfy and comforting. Sentimental, you know? But I have no clue where it is currently (which is honestly a little distressing), so I guess my current favorite item of clothing would have to be....oh dang...I think it's still another baggy comfy sweater haha. So back in high school I found this sweater at Goodwill, Michael calls it my Cosby sweater, it is by far the best thing I own. It's pretty hideous, don't get me wrong, but it is so secure and colorful and warm and snuggly. Throw a scarf around it and I can go out to eat (at least in downtown Oly) or just chill at home with it and some yoga pants. I love it. It's a problem. M loves it too though thank goodness. Cue photo of ridiculous sweater.

(Here's a picture that was actually in my high school yearbook of my in my Cosby sweater from senior year)

9. Read the book or watch the movie? Explain your choice!
This is a genius question. Ok...I guess it depends, automatically I'd say book, however if the movie is right there already, I'll probably pick the movie first and then read the book if I liked the movie. Some things should also be taken totally differently. Like....Howl's Moving Castle. Book and movie were both really good, but completely different. Can I say both haha? I used to be books always, but high school kind of murdered reading for me. Unless it's Harry Potter. Always books with Harry Potter.

10. What's your favorite type of music and why?     Easy. I go for softish indie rock type things all day long. Things like Joshua Radin, Brett Dennin, Paolo Nutini, etc. all day long. Those three men alone and I'm set for life.

11. When was the last time you had a day that was "The Best Day Ever?" What did you do?
My last "best day ever" (also these questions were great Ashley) was definitely the morning of my second day in Leavenworth with M for our Christmas present trip. We woke up in our amazing B&B room in the pluffiest comforter ever, went downstairs to our more than amazing hosts and the fantastically delicious breakfast that they made (homemade everything. everything. granola, quiche, scones, yogurt, bacon...) and then headed out for a day of delicious food and shopping. We spent pretty much 3 hours in a restaurant with beyond good food so M could finish this giant beer he ordered and I had my first taste of hot spiced wine, which was mind glowingly good. Just a fantastic day spent simply together and enjoying each others company. When we got back to the B&B we scurried outside and hopped in the hot tub even though it was freezing out and surrounded by snow, which was beyond fun. The night was lovely. The whole trip was lovely and also included a shared bottle of wine, a bubble bath, getting lost on a road filled with pot holes and covered in ice, and so much more. Most definitely the best day ever.

Woo! That was actually a little harder than I thought it would be. Fun fun fun though. And now for my 11 nominated bloggers and my 11 questions!

Nominees:

Sammi from The Soubrette Brunette
Kristina from Eccentric Owl
Becca from Ladyface Blog
Helena from Take A Bow
Alyssa from Butterflies On Mars

Sad to say, I don't follow 11 blogs with under 1,000 followers, does this make me a naughty person? I now feel after this sad little handful that I definitely need to come up with more to follow and support seeing as I am quite a small blog myself. I didn't want to just find blogs and add them as I wrote this though, because that seemed a little cheap to the whole spirit of the thing.

Questions:
1. Describe your blog in one sentence, then elaborate.
2. What do you love (or hate) about where you're currently living?
3. If you could get one thing ultimately out of your blog, what would it be?
4. Do you have any pets? If yes, photos please!
5. Why did you first start blogging?
6. Coke or Pepsi?
7. What is your favorite post to date?
8. What is your best embarrassing story? (Or any good one)
9. What is the best place you've ever visited?
10. What is your favorite fashion trend? (Or was)
11. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

And that's it! Instructions are to make your own post (if you so wish to participate) and link it back to whoever nominated you, answer the questions, nominate 11 (or if you're a little lame like me, less than) of your favorite less than 1,000 follower blogs, and come up with 11 question for them to answer! Horah! I love you all!

Love & Sunshine,
Rya Pie

(And thanks again to Ashley for this awesome opportunity!)

  2. Ah, I loved reading all of your answers! I love getting to know bloggers like this; I am too lazy to nominate people (mostly because I suck at thinking up good questions, haha!), but I'll definitely be answering the questions today! Thank you for nominating me!
